Q: Why are you called Wheeling Island?

A: We are located on Wheeling Island, which is an inland island in the Ohio River. Wheeling Island is part of the city of Wheeling, West Virginia.

 

Q: Do you offer a hotel?

A: Yes, our 151 room deluxe hotel is open with many great new dining options, gift shop, and showroom

 

Q: Do you offer entertainment now?

A: Our new showroom is host to many entertainers and events.

 

Q: What is the legal age to play the slot machines?

A: Guests wishing to play the slot machines or tabel games must be 21 years old or older. Guests wishing to wager on racing must be 18 years old or older. A driver's license or other photo ID may be required to enter the gaming room.

 

Q: Are children permitted?

A: Children accompanied by an adult are permitted to use the Family Entrance and view the live greyhound racing. However, children are not permitted in the gaming areas.

 

Q: Are all the racing dogs greyhounds?

A: Yes. They are greyhounds registered through the National Greyhound Association. Most begin their racing career at 16- to 18-months-old and can race to age four or five.

 

Q: Do you offer an adoption program?

A: Yes. Greyhound Pets of America, a national adoption program with a local chapter at Wheeling Island, places retired racing greyhounds into homes as pets.

 

Q: How fast do greyhounds run?

A: They can attain speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.
